Spring on the Farm

Tiny buds are turning to full blooms... the fields are humming with bees... and we are mesmerized by it all. We've been visited by a very social quail, a shy bobcat, and a beaver. The turkey and geese are constant companions, welcoming the warmer weather with us.

We're starting to see the matrix of it all, the patterns that will repeat year to year. We are learning where to spend our energy most efficiently. We are mentally energized even when our bodies are exhausted.

Incredibly, we are still pruning. In the now-green fields, dead or depleted branches have declared themselves. And while new growth on the bushes is fantastic, we must have room for our equipment to fit down the rows. And so we are retracing earlier steps to widen things up. It is disappointing to cut back a branch overflowing with blooms but, we're assured (by people who know more than us) that we are strengthening the plant for future harvests. We are focused on the long game.

The upcoming month will be a busy one as we prep the farm stands, welcome an awesome summer crew (with a number of returning staffers), and ready the rows for their summer debut. The countdown is on! See you soon.
