Scenes from June 2024

What's happening in June?

Everything.  Everything is happening in June.

Mowing, weeding, tending the plants.

We are gathering things for the farm stands - and making new friends along the way.  Boxed water will replace single use plastic water bottles... which beyond being eco-friendly it is so tasty.  And we're excited to be bringing in a few guest vendors on weekends (see our events page).  Ice cream and smoothies and baked goods!

Solar power will run our remote farm stand in the south field.  This allows us to power our credit card processors, fridge, fan - and the best part?  It is silent.  Like the sun.

Scenes from April and May 2024

What's happening in April and May?

Everything plant health care.  As the ground has thawed, the buds unfold and emerge.  Plants we worried weren't thriving are back.  Plants we worried we'd pruned too hard are happy.  The air is literally buzzing with bees and anticipation.

And equipment... we're all about machines now.  Farm equipment comes with idosyncracies - a loose connection that needs a clamp when it's raining, the gas pedal that needs three, not four, pumps to get things started.  So, while we inherited a number of functioning pieces, we're transitioning to a lot of new equipment.  This will ensure that when the time comes we'll know the trick to get things running.  And, when it gets a dent, we'll know how it got there.

Scenes from February and March 2024

What's happening in February and March?

Mostly we're pruning.

We're finding things along the way (anyone missing some eyeglasses?)

We mailed in some soil samples (still waiting for our results and the suspense is killing us!)

We counted the bushes (4,701) and as of this writing, as the snow falls again outside, we have pruned close to 1500 of them.

We spent one Saturday pruning alongside arborist friends from Harvard's Arnold Arboretum in Boston.  They helped us make some serious headway.

Did we mention that we're pruning?
